A Bunny Quilt from 1991

Look what I found downstairs during my cleaning spree! This is a quilt I made daughter Lydia before she was born, 28 years ago. It has four layers of extra-loft poly in it, I didn't have a quilting machine, and so didn't do much quilting on it (and I see that a little bit of the quilting is coming out; I need to fix it). It didn't need much quilting in the beginning, because it was so puffy. But it's been folded tightly in a bag for many years now, and the ruffles and the batting are a bit squashed. I washed and dried it, and that fluffed it up a little. The border on the back is rouched. It's a heavy little quilt! Lydia lugged it around, slept with it, and played with it until she was at least Kindergarten age.

New York Beauty Pillow Shams, Completed

The New York Beauty pillow shams are all done, which means this project is now finished!  Over.  Through.  Complete. All done!!!  Each king-sized sham measures 19" x 36".

The backs are made of the same fabric as the quilt backing.  They are of two overlapped and lined pieces of fabric, so that the pillows can be removed when needed.

This entire project took 639.5 hours.
Total cost, $383.59.  (Had I not gotten many things on sale, it would've been $653.72.)
That includes fabric, piecing thread, lace, quilting thread, pearls, batting, pre-strung beads, and iron-on-interfacing (for the borders on the pillow shams).

I plan to enter quilt and pillows in the County and State Fairs, and then in some quilting shows before giving the ensemble to son-in-law and daughter, Jeremy and Lydia.

New York Beauty Pillow Shams

The tops of both New York Beauty pillow shams are done, 740 pearls and all.  Tomorrow I'll make the backs and then sew the shams together.  The pair of king-sized pillows I ordered arrived a couple of weeks ago.  They're surprisingly nice, considering the fact that I ordered fairly cheap ones, since nobody will actually be using them to sleep on.

Just a few more hours, and this project will be completed!

Label for New York Beauty Quilt

I'm not totally happy with the machine-embroidered label I made today, but it might not be any better if I redid it, and I've already spent quite a few hours on it.  The screen on my Bernina 180E Artista is small and in black and white, and I often have no idea until a design is stitched out that some of it overlaps or is spaced too widely.

So... here it is, and this is the way it's going to stay.

Now to finish the pillow shams!

New York Beauty Quilt, Finished

Yesterday, I finished the New York Beauty quilt!

Since Larry has been working on the back deck, power-washing it and getting it ready to stain, and that's where I usually take pictures of my quilts, we drove out to Loren and Norma's to use their deck for the photo shoot.

Problem:  In between the time we left our house and arrived at their house ten minutes later, the wind had come up -- and it kept a-blowing until we quit taking pictures, folded up the quilt, and stowed it back inside the Jeep.

Being disappointed with the rumpled-quilt pictures, this afternoon Larry moved his paraphernalia and the deck furniture, and I retook the photos on our deck.  The wind cooperated this time.

The quilt measures 117" x 117".  It is comprised of 32 different white-on-cream fabrics and 25 different white-on-white fabrics.  I used extra-loft poly batting.  The top thread is #40 Signature, and the bobbin thread is #60 Bottom Line.  There are about 6,660 pearls sewn onto the Venice lace.  I have 593.5 hours in the quilt -- and I still need to sew a hanging sleeve onto it, make a label, and finish the two king-sized pillow shams.  I designed the quilt in EQ8.

Okay... let's try that again!
