Before & After Inktense

The quilting is finished on the Jardin de Fleurs quilt, except for a little unquilted area I just spotted in the photos, and a few lines I need to add to the borders of the central panel.  Here are some shots before and after applying the Inktense pencils.  I've misted the ink with water, and will heat-set it tomorrow.  Next, the label and the binding, and the quilt will be done.

Last Two Side Borders

I finished the borders on one side of the Jardin de Fleurs quilt, rolled the quilt all the way to the other side, and have started on these final borders.

Quilting a Side Border

The outer pieced border is quilted, and now I'm working on the wide area where I will do graffiti quilting around the quilted hibisci and leaves.  Flowers, leaves, and vines have been stitched, and I've misted it with water to remove the markings.  I'll start on the background filler tomorrow.

Third Side, Jardin de Fleurs

The quilt has been turned, and I'm working on one of the side borders.  Before turning the quilt, I applied some Inktense penciling to the hibisci, leaves, and vines in one of the top borders, as I did to one of the bottom borders earlier.  I have not yet added the water that spreads the ink.

Turning A Quilt

The quilt has been turned and reloaded. The thing I don't like about doing this, especially with two very wide border on both sides to complete, is that it's practically impossible to get it back onto the frame with no rumples, especially in the backing! I had even stitched in the ditch between the borders. I've pulled it as taut as I can, and sprayed both top and backing with starch. (And then I had to wipe down the table and rails and the mirror that I use for looking at the underside of the quilt, since I inadvertently doused those, too.)

Ooookay... it has now been a few minutes since I soaked the backing with starch, and I see it is nice and smooth. Starch to the rescue! Thank goodness for starch.

Working Bottom Row, Jardin de Fleurs

I've been working on the bottom row of the Jardin de Fleurs quilt.  It's not quite done, but will be soon, and then I will remove the quilt from the frame, turn it 90°, and work on the side borders.
