More Quilting, Army Quilt

 Another 3 or 4 hours of quilting, and I should be reading to trim and remove Joseph's Army quilt from the frame, and then bind it.

Frankenbatting

Is it worth my while to make Frankenbatting? 😄 (That’s batting scraps sewn together to make one piece of batting big enough for a quilt.)

I just finished putting together a queen-sized piece in Soft & Bright, 100% cotton, and a full-sized poly high-loft, maybe Fairfield. The first is worth about $27; the second, about $35. (Well, you can pay $50 for the Soft & Bright if you want to, out of the goodness of your heart, you know, at Joann’s.) (Tomorrow it could very likely be on sale cheaper than the $27 I saw at Sewing Parts Online.) I was wondering if this endeavor was worth my while, or if it would be better to quit worrying about it, and toss the pile of batting scraps in the rubbish bin.

It took me 3 hours to sew all the pieces together (and it barely made a dent in my batting scraps). I saved about $62 (unless I had’ve felt like increasing Joann’s holdings, in which case I saved $85; but let’s go on the premise that I am a skinflint, and would’ve gotten it as cheaply as possible). This calculates to about $20.66/hour. I’ve made less, in my lifetime. 😏

Okay, I guess it’s worth my while. 😊

Joseph's Army Quilt Top, Put Together

 Son Joseph's Army quilt top is put together, as is the back and the binding.  It's ready to be quilted.  Monday I will get my quilting machine back from the tech, who has cleaned it, adjusted the hopping foot, and added a few lights to the handles.  Joseph's birthday is the 24th.  Reckon I can get done by then??

 I've finished the corner blocks, each one made of 24 pieces and measuring 7.5".  I'm ready to attach the fourth border on Joseph's Army quilt.  Two more borders after this one.

Biblical Blocks Quilt

This is another quilt my daughter-in-law Amy gave me, this one found in pieces at her grandparents' home. We believe her grandmother, who is in frail health, started it in the early 80s. It's called "Biblical Blocks". I finished putting it together, added the borders, and prepared the binding. It, too, will be ready to quilt as soon as I get my machine back from the tech. And then Amy will surprise her grandmother with it, all finished. There is a problem area on the left side around that first blue sashing. I have a gallon of starch on hand; reckon that will be enough to force it into subjection?  😄

Pink, Black, & White Quilt

My daughter-in-law Amy found this pink, black, and white quilt top at a secondhand store somewhere. I took out the turned-under, topstitched edge (which was done at 20 stitches per inch, I do believe) (I nevah, evah exaggerate, you know), pressed it, cut and sewed together pieces for the binding and then for the backing. I sewed together pieces of leftover batting, too. So this one is ready to be quilted.
