Sunbonnet Sue Flimsy Is Done

The Sunbonnet Sue flimsy (quilt top only) is finished!  It measures 88" x 88".

Now to quilt it!  But I have a few other things I must do first.  Soon, soon.

13 Irish Chain Blocks for SBS Quilt

Twelve more Irish Chain blocks are done, making a total of thirteen, for the Sunbonnet Sue quilt.  Five left to go... but it takes about 20 minutes for each block, and it's bedtime now.

I laid the blocks on the twin bed in the little library upstairs to take pictures of them, and, as you can see, the Americana Eagle quilt that's under them is doing competition.  😏  These blocks would make a fine quilt all by themselves, wouldn't they?

If you're wondering about my choice of background fabric for these blocks, I chose a mottled cream color that was as close as I could get to the color of the background of the Sunbonnet Sue blocks.  Some are stained.  I washed them, and a few, but not all, of the stains came out.  So... the mottled cream will hopefully make it all blend together, and cause those stains to be less noticeable.

Again, after the Irish Chain blocks, I am posting the design from EQ8, so you can see what the quilt will look like.  The Sunbonnet Sue blocks can be seen here:

First Irish Chain Block for the Sunbonnet Sue Quilt

Today I cut all the background pieces for the Sunbonnet Sue quilt and put together the small squares, colored to cream, then sewed the four-patch units.

There are 144 four-patches.

I happened to look out the window shortly after 8:30 p.m., and discovered that the setting sun was illuminating the tall lavender phlox -- so I grabbed my camera and dashed downstairs and out the front door.  By the time I took the last shot, the sun had already sunk enough that the lower flower clusters were in shadow.

Starting Vintage Sunbonnet Sue Quilt

I have started on the Sunbonnet Sue quilt, and will be using the vintage blocks made by some of my ancestors and their friends, neighbors, and teachers.

It's been 3 1/2 years since my sister gave me these blocks!  Time to get this quilt put together.  

I got the colored squares all cut  Tomorrow I'll cut the background pieces.  The blocks range in size from 16" down to 10.5", so I'll trim them all down to the same size and then add a border to make them uniform.  They need to be 13" to fit the design I put together in EQ8.

There are 18 large squares and 48 strips, each of which will make 65 small squares (I'll cut them after sewing colored strips to background strips).

The fabric is all folded and put back into bins (except for the background stuff), and the bins put away.  I have a lot of cutting to do tomorrow!

Rooster Quilt

Today I made a 25" x 25" Rooster quilt at the request of some friends, who wanted it as a bed for their cat.  I can't decide if this is a rooster cat quilt, or a cat rooster quilt.  😄  I tried not to over-quilt it, since the kitty will prefer it more fluffy.

Customer's Kitty Quilt

I quilted a customer's Kitty Quilt today.  The pantograph is called 'Cat's Meow'.  The quilt measures 51" x 58".

Instead of the borders having excess fullness, as is often the case, the inside panel had the excess.  It didn't look too bad when it was in direct light, but when the overhead lights were turned off and photos taken from a low angle, it looked pretty bubbly.

So I outlined the printed blocks in the center panel.  It looks fine now.

Customer's 'Red-Hot Flashes' Quilt

Yesterday I quilted my customer's 'Red-Hot Flashes' quilt.  The pantograph is 'Hibiscus'.  I used Superior's So Fine #50 on top, and Bottom Line #60 in the bobbin.  The quilt measures 59" x 69".
