Quilting Linda's 'Dreaming In Blue'

A little more quilting done today... and I'm getting close to the halfway point on my customer's 'Dreaming in Blue' quilt.   This pantograph -- let's call it 'Butterfly and Leaves' -- is intense!  It takes right around 40 minutes to quilt one row.

Linda's 'Dreaming in Blue' Quilt

The first row of quilting is nearly done on my customer's 'Dreaming in Blue' quilt... and then I ran out of bobbin thread, looked at the clock, saw that it was well after midnight, and discovered I was fresh out of oomph. I didn't even have enough left to put another bobbin into the machine. But I worked up enough steam to take pictures. 😉

My customer had chosen a pantograph from several I emailed her.  When I went to put the pantograph on my quilting table, I found that... it wasn't really a pantograph. It was only a picture I'd saved in my pantograph files of someone's doodling!  I'd found it at a line-drawing website, free for the taking.  I saved it, thinking to turn it into a pantograph someday.

So... I did that, adding the curves and curlicues necessary to connect the block-shaped doodle together.  After printing, I staggered the pages (as seen in the photos) so the quilting would mesh.  (Straight block-shaped pantos are prone to leaving blank spots between the rows.)

I'm using pale, silvery blue thread top and bottom.

Ruth's Botanica Park Pillow Shams

Today I quilted a couple of pillow shams that my customer made to match her Botanica Park Quilt, which I quilted at the end of September:  Ruth's Botanica Park Quilt

Each sham measures 24" x 33".  The batting is Warm & Natural 100% cotton.  There's 'Sandy-Gray' Gütermann 50-wt. cotton thread on top, and 'Putty' So Fine 50-wt. poly in the bobbin. The pantograph is 'Wave on Wave'.

Carol's Christmas Wall Hanging

Yesterday I quilted a Christmas wall hanging for Carol Weber.  It measures 60" x 71".  I used dark gold Bottom Line #60 thread top and bottom, except for in the white squares, where I switched to white Bottom Line #60 on top.

NYE Mystery Quilt

A couple of days ago I quilted a New-Year's-Eve mystery quilt designed by Susie Rose and cut and pieced together by Donna Russell.  Of course I can only show you the quilting from the back, but I would like to tell you that it's a beautifully designed quilt, and I believe that you would be delighted to join those who will be following all the clues and making this quilt on New Year's Eve.

Here is the quilting on the back.  The pantograph is called 'Pink Paisley'.  Donna chose the pantograph to go with her pretty fabrics; it has nothing to do with the pattern itself.  😉

Fabric for Blooming 9-Patch Quilt

Friday I went to Country Traditions in Fremont and purchased fabric for a quilt I designed in EQ8 called 'Blooming 9-Patch'.  It will be a while before I start it, though, because I'm in the middle of the giant project of scanning all my old photos -- in some 350+ albums, some of which hold 700-800 photos.  Others only hold 250-300; but the average is about 400, I'd say.  I only have 24 albums scanned so far.

I may withdraw those two fabrics that are silvery-gray and light plum and see if I can find a couple of floral prints that match better.  Maybe.  Possibly.  Perhaps.  Probably.

By using my Country Traditions 20%-off birthday card, I saved $98.

'In Love With Africa', Complete

My customer's 'In Love With Africa' quilt is all done, and its way back home.

This quilt measures 74" x 86", and has various types of appliqué and piecing on both sides.  The pantograph is 'African Samba'.  I used my glide foot, so as to smoothly quilt over all the appliqués.  There's a light gray-blue thread, more gray than blue, in So Fine 50-wt. on top, and silver Bottom Line 60-wt. thread on the back.

Following is what my customer, Linda, wrote about this quilt:

My husband and I lived in Argentina for 14 years for his job in mining.

A gal came from South Africa with 250 kilos of fabric.  She was a quilter also.  When she left, I bought something like 50 pounds of fabric from her.  So, for the most part, this quilt is made up of mostly African fabric.

The name of this pattern is called 'Village', by Kim McLean. I saw this quilt at our local quilt show last year. It had all these houses in the middle, but when I saw it those houses didn't look like they belonged. Not with these wild animals. I came home and started drawing animals that weren't in the pattern.

I ordered the original and completely changed it.

They had to have a source of water, so that's where the river came in. Then I knew the river had to have crocodiles, frogs, and fish.

I looked on the Internet to see what the fish look like in Africa, and then, as close as I could, drew some.

I looked for African huts, people doing different things, chickens running around, etc. It was so much fun to do.

Like I said before, for the most part the fabric is from South Africa.

I was especially happy to have the piece of fabric with Nelson Mandela (on the back).
