Bear Paw Quilt Top Done

The Bear Paw quilt top is done; now it needs to be quilted and bound.  But first... I must make my great-niece something for her wedding.  Here are eight pieces of fabric I'll start with.  Hmmm... what shall it be, what shall it be?

As I was taking pictures on the back deck, I happened to glance over the railing -- and discovered the  Double Rose of Sharon Hibiscus, Hibiscus syriacus, is in bloom!  So I scurried down the steps and took some pictures.  Then I noticed that the peaches are starting to turn peachy-red... the chokecherries are ripe... and the purple coneflowers are blooming.  The yard is pretty!

Pieced Border on Bear Paw Quilt

The pieced border is on the Bear Paw quilt. One more plain, narrow border, and it will be ready to quilt.

Middle of Bear Paw Quilt is Together

The central part of the Bear Paw quilt is together.  It measures 72" x 72" now... and after I attach a pieced border and a plain border, it will measure 93" x 93".  (Click to enlarge photo.)

Also, here are a few photos from my flower gardens:  tall lavender phlox, orange daylilies, and pink Asiatic lilies.

Finished with Carol's 'Good Fortune' Quilt

This afternoon I finished quilting my customer's 'Good Fortune' quilt, a Bonnie Hunter mystery design. It measures 82" x 82".  The pantograph is called 'Angelica'.   I used butter yellow #60 Bottom Line in the bobbin and pale yellow #50 Omni on top, both by Superior.

Whew, it’s hot outside! 93°, but the heat index is 106°. All the poor little birds are sitting around with their beaks open (unless said beaks are full of worms for their babies).

This evening I started quilting my customer's 'Good Fortune' mystery quilt, a Bonnie Hunter design.  One and a half rows are done, and I'm ready to roll it forward to the next row.

The pantograph is called 'Angelica'.  I'm using butter yellow #60 Bottom Line in the bobbin and pale yellow #50 Omni on top.

Bear Paw Quilt -- First Block Done

The first block is done for the Bear Paw quilt -- the familiar Bear Track pattern that has long been on my 'Want-To-Do List'.  All the HSTs are sewn together, and other units are ready to sew into blocks.

Awards at the Platte County Fair

Tonight Larry and I went to the County Fair, mainly to see what my entries had won, but also to see the other entries and the animals.  We also watched the children's mutton busting for a few minutes.  I'll post those pictures on my Nature's Splendor blog as soon as I get them edited.

The New York Beauty quilt won First Place and Best of County Quilt.
1936 Sunbonnet Sue won First Place and Grand Champion.
The New York Beauty pillow sham won First Place and Judge's Choice.
The Stars table runner won First Place and Judge's Choice.
The fabric nesting bowls won First Place.
The Camper placemat set won First Place.
The round spoked pillow won Second Place.
The Maxwell House mug rug won First Place.
And -- surprise, Hannah! -- I entered the crocheted rug you made me!  It won Second Place.

The Beginnings of a New Quilt

About half of the pieces for the Bear Paws quilt are cut, and much of the sashing and cornerstones is sewn together.  The center panel is trimmed and I've added strips to the sides to make it the right size for the quilt design.  Tomorrow I'll cut the background and the border pieces and, hopefully, start sewing it together.

There are 32 squares and 128 HSTs.  I've used 94 different fabrics so far.

Bear Paw Wildlife Quilt

Okay, since posting the previous four options, I've had hundreds of responses (I also posted them on Facebook quilting groups).  I have now combined ideas from the two favorites (which were my favorites also), and have come up with this, which I am quite happy with.

Problem:  this panel, by Realtree, must be outdated, because I can't find one like it!  Similar, but not just like it.  And of course I like this one the best.  Anybody have one they'd like to sell?

Bear Paw/Wildlife Quilt

I've been working on a quilt design in EQ8 that I plan to give to Larry's brother Kenny, who lost his wife a little over a month ago.  Which one do you like best?
