Fabric for Next Quilt

Does this look like a quilt to you?

Don't laugh at it!  What might look like mayhem, disarray, and hodgepodge to you is an organized and well-grouped coordination to me.   😂

Amazingly, in my smallish stash I found a 5-yard piece of fabric -- the only sizable piece -- that will work for the backing, and a piece that will look nice as binding (last two photos).  The background will have to be scrappy white-on-creams; I don't have enough of any one white or cream fabric for the background.

Tomorrow I'll start cutting.  If the quilt turns out like I want it to, it will be for my niece Susan, Kelvin's sister, who is fighting an aggressive form of breast cancer.  I wound up choosing an entirely different pattern than the ones I designed in EQ8; it's a pattern in a book, which I've long intended to use.

(Nope, not telling yet.)  😉

Label for the Silver Wolves Quilt

Label for Kelvin's quilt. I added Larry's name in there, 'cuz, after all, his money bought the fabric and supplies!

Silver Wolves Quilt, Complete

Last night I finished the Silver Wolves quilt, all but the label. It is for my nephew Kelvin, who is suffering from colon cancer. The backing is a soft flannel from Timeless Treasures.  The quilt measures 68.5" x 77".

Just as I started snapping pictures of the quilt on the bench on the porch, out popped Teensy, quite sure I'd made him a nice quilt to sleep on, on that bench. 😂 When it looked like he planned to hop up on it, I said, "Stay down," and you can see his disappointed mien in the next photo. Po' mistreated thang. (Yes, you *can* teach cats. 😏)

Last couple of shots show the view from my second-story studio window and last night's gorgeous sunset.

Quilting Silver Wolves

The big wolves are quilted (thread-painted), and I'm almost to the bottom borders.

Quilting Silver Wolves Panel

Now working on the printed Silver Wolves panel, along with the side borders.  I'm almost to the halfway point.

I stopped momentarily for a few sips of coffee, looked out the front window, and spotted a cottontail in the front yard.  Isn't he cute?

Top Borders, Silver Wolves Quilt

The top borders are done on the Silver Wolves quilt, and I'm ready to start thread-painting the panel.

Quilting the Silver Wolves Quilt

The top three borders of the Silver Wolves quilt are done.

Maybe I'd have gotten more done, had I not decided to make a giant pot of chili.  I make it like I always taught my girls:   fix each part of a casserole, soup, pot pie, or suchlike, so that those individual parts are each so yummy, when you taste them you want to eat them by themselves!  Then when you combine those ingredients, you’ll have the best dish anyone could ever come up with. 😋

I need to look up my freezer bags and containers, because there’s a whole lot left over.  Just look what a huge pot is on my stove!  It was full, by the time I put the tomato sauce in, along with all the onions, celery, and summer squash I cut up.  I added corn, green beans, peas, and carrots, too.   Mmmmm...   But I won't freeze any of it until Monday.  It always tastes better on days 2 and 3, and if I freeze it right now, it will only have Day-One Flavor.

The chili was a wee bit bitter, as chili sometimes is, so I thought of those ingredients one can add to help matters ----- and whataya know, I had some of every recommended ingredient.  So... I added several squirts of lemon juice, a big chunk of brown sugar, an entire stick of butter, and a spoonful of baking soda (which makes it fizz quite entertainingly).

And then it was good.  Really, really good – except I was afraid it might be too hot for Larry.  The three little cans of tomato sauce I'd added to the two big ones were heavily laced – with jalapeños. 😬🤪🥵

It’s hot.

Why did I think I needed to cook the entire four-pound bag of kidney beans, for crying out loud?!  Ah, well.  It'll be very nice to have chili in the freezer for a while.
