Memory Quilt #2

Today I quilted my customer's second Memory Quilt.  This quilt is for the older sister of the little girl who passed away last year.  My customer, Joyce, writes this about the various fabrics in the quilt:

"All the blankets were either baby blankets or clothing or a bathrobe.  The backing is a very soft fleece the girls shared and loved.  The parents wanted something special for her older sister that would have special meaning.  Embroidered corners on blankets were salvaged.  Even the pocket on the bathrobe was kept, for a character was climbing out of the pocket.  One thing I tried to use was some swans that were on a baby quilt.  Initially, I thought I could; but upon closer inspection, they were too frayed.  Since the swans meant so much to them, I reconstructed a pair of swans.  As with many things in life, it is our sentimental connection that takes them to a higher plain than just being an old blanket or hoodie or whatever."

The quilt measures 49" x 61".  Tomorrow I will take pictures of the whole quilt in natural light.

First Memory Quilt, Quilting Finished

I finished quilting my customer's Memory Quilt last night.

The Circle of Geese blocks feature fabric from the clothes of a little girl who passed away last year.  The backing was part of the child's comforter.  The corners, displaying elephants, were cut from a nursing blanket the mother used when the family lived in Kenya and the little girl was a baby.  They are particularly fond of yellow and of daisies.

Thus the Omni thread, by Superior, in a shade of yellow called 'Butter'.  The pantograph is called G'Daisy.  The quilt measures 73" x 88".  The last picture shows the back, which was a favorite comforter.  My customer will complete the binding.

More Quilting on Customer's Memory Quilt

Just a couple of rows left on my customer's Memory Quilt.

I hope to finish it tomorrow.

My customer asked that I take pictures of my quilting machine, an 18" HandiQuilter Avanté, so she could show the family for whom she is making the quilt.  This is the machine Larry surprised me with for Christmas, to replace my HQ16.  The frame is 12' long.

First Butterfly Done on the Bucilla Butterfly Quilt

The first butterfly is done on the Bucilla Butterfly quilt!

This is what I work on when we have company, or the electricity goes out, or we are traveling and I don't have anything else to do... which explains why it's taken several years to get one butterfly done.  As soon as I complete a few more quilts on my To-Do List, this cross-stitched quilt will go on the list, and I'll just work on it, until it's done.  I'm not very fond of half-done projects sitting around cooling their heels.  😏

The last picture shows what the Bucilla Butterfly quilt should look like when it's finished.

Quilting a Customer's Memory Quilt

I've just started quilting a customer's Memory Quilt.  Some of it features fabric from the clothes of a little girl who passed away last year, though that part of the quilt is still rolled on my quilt frame bars.

Here is the first row.  The pantograph is called G'Daisy.  The last photo is taken into my mirror whilst holding it under the frame and shining a flashlight on the backing.
