Ten More Maple Leaf Blocks

17 Maple Leaf blocks are done; 47 more to go. The 'sky' area is almost complete. (The blocks are not sewn together yet.)

Seven Maple Leaf Blocks

Seven Maple Leaf blocks are now done.  The one on the left and lower left are made of different fabrics, can you tell it?  The camera doesn't pick up the silver sparkly background.  57 more blocks to go!

EQ8 Rendition

Okay, here we go -- a general idea of background composition, from EQ8. Back to business!

Five Light Blue Blocks

I've used up most of these colors; on to the next ones! I mentioned yesterday that I wished I had a big design wall so I could integrate a blend of colors into this background. Well, I've decided to use EQ8 to do just that. It'll take some time, but it'll be worth it, and I'll be sorry if I don't. What I'm wanting here are blocks that are partially one color and partially another, as the sky transitions from blue to the yellow of sunlight, and, farther down, to the light greens of garden backgrounds. These blocks will be positioned somewhere in the top right portion of the quilt.

First Block Done

The first Maple Leaf block for the Dresden Flowers & Feathers quilt is done.  I'll put together the entire background -- all Maple Leaves -- before I start on the Dresden flowers, which will be randomly appliquéd onto the background.  This particular block will be part of the sky.  Finished size will be 9".

Fabrics for Dresden Flowers & Feathers

Look at this mess of fabrics! Does it look like a Dresden Flowers & Feathers quilt to you?? This is one of my favorite parts: choosing the fabrics. I like to use up older pieces, whenever possible -- as you can tell by all the florals, which I rarely buy these days.

Matching Pillows for Puppy Pause

Matching pillows for Arnold's Puppy Pause quilt. The backs are the same, but I couldn't make the fronts identical, because I didn't have enough fabric. They look a bit jumbled to me. Ah, well. Little Arnold won't mind!

'Puppy Pause' Quilt Finished

Two-year-old grandson Arnold's 'Puppy Pause' quilt is all finished.  It measures 58" x 70".  I designed it in EQ8.  The batting is Quilters' Dream 80/20.  The pantograph is called 'Dog Treats'.

Quilting Done, Puppy Pause

I just finished quilting Puppy Pause.  I have just enough time to cut the binding before our evening church service. The red stripe is the backing.

Second Row Quilted, Puppy Pause

First Row Quilted, Puppy Pause

The first row of Puppy Pause is quilted. Look at all the seams in the batting! Good thing batting is stretchy and smooshable, and good thing there are lots of seams in the quilt top, to camouflage the seams in the batting! (The batting is not overlapped, and I used a 9mm zigzag, so it will not be detected.)

Puppy Pause Flimsy

The Puppy Pause flimsy for grandson Arnold is done.  Next week, I'll rummage up a backing and get it quilted.

Nine-Patches

All 72 three-inch 9-patches are done, 18 of each variety, using up nearly all of the puppy print and paw print fabrics.  In fact, few patches had to be pieced.  Now to sew them together to make the next border.

First Border, Puppy Pause

The first border of Puppy Pause is on.  Now for the next border, which will consist of 648 one-inch squares and 4 three-inch squares.

All the blocks are done for Arnold's Puppy Pause quilt. I'll sew them together tomorrow and start on the borders.  (The blocks are lying on my 'design bed', heh.)
