A few more pieces of sashing and at least a couple of borders, and grandson Josiah's Mane Event quilt will be ready to be quilted. That light blue striped fabric is from some of Larry's retired work shirts. Astonishingly, there was actually usable fabric (meaning, neither stained nor ripped or burned) on some of those shirt backs!

Horse Blocks
Putting together horse blocks for grandson Josiah's quilt. Josiah's late Great-Grandma Elaine started this quilt years ago. She had several of the horse heads sewn to the whole-horse pictures. Today I trimmed everything to uniform sizes, added the rest of the horse heads to the larger pictures, and then sewed 'frames' around all the extras.

Change of Plans
Oooooo, change of plans! I just found a bunch of block sections like these, partially sewn together, with several extras besides, started by grandson Josiah's late great-grandmother Elaine! Remember the lady for whom I finished the Tree of Life quilt? These blocks were put together by her, years ago. They have her trademark: seams done on a serger. Daughter-in-law Amy's sister Suzanne found the blocks in Elaine's house (same time Amy found the partially-done Tree of Life quilt) some years back when they were cleaning the place after discovering there had been an ongoing water leak in the basement, creating all sorts of problems. Many things had to be discarded. Fabric that hadn't been ruined was washed -- and this is some of it.
Quilt for Josiah
While I wait for the backing for Levi's quilt to arrive, I'm starting on grandson Josiah's quilt. In hunting through the panels I'd purchased for the grandsons, I discovered that I have 20 panels for boys, 2 for girls -- and only 15 more to make for boys! (well, except for the ones I'll need to make another for, on account of babies not staying babies). Here's the one I've chosen for Josiah. Now I have a question: what do you do with those little dabs of border you wind up with when you buy a panel like this? (Click on picture to see borders.) I've used them in various places on various quilts, but I'm never completely happy with it.

Heaven & Nature Sing Quilt Top
Grandson Levi's Heaven & Nature Sing quilt top is all together, except for one more cream-colored border. His late other grandmother had started a quilt with these animal/scenic pictures; I took it apart and revamped it. Daughter Hannah found an envelope of embroidered letters amongst her late mother-in-law's sewing things, and they spell out LEVI DANIEL. I made sure to leave space for the letters on the quilt. They aren't ironed and sewn on yet.
Old Wedding Ring Quilt
Today I pulled out the quilt Larry's grandmother, Ruby Berry, made for his mother, Norma Jackson, in 1974. It is machine-pieced and hand-quilted. Norma gave it to me in 2016, along with an extra patch Grandma Ruby had put together, so that I might fix some of the frayed patches. So now I have done that, a mere 8 years later. 😉 It will now go to Larry's sister Rhonda.

Sashing for 'Heaven & Nature Sing'
I'm glad to see that the cream-on-cream sashing is making the 3D shadowing show up as intended. I should probably put 3D shadow strips on the Tilted Pine Tree blocks, too. Debating...

Pine Trees, Tilted
All the little Pine Trees are now tilted. Now to start putting them together with the wildlife-scenic blocks, and decide if there are enough Pine Tree blocks.

And Then I Ran Out of Thread...
I was allllllllllmost done quilting, oh so very, very close --- and then I ran out of thread. Another cone of thread is supposed to arrive tomorrow.
