17 Log Cabin Blocks Done

17 Log Cabin blocks are done; 23 more to go. I had to lay them out with a few of the puppy blocks to see what they looked like. (Blocks are not sewn together.) The fabric of the puppy blocks and the outer strips of the Log Cabin blocks are pretty close to the same color, in 'real life' ('real quilt'?), but the puppy blocks are only one layer of fabric, while the Log Cabin blocks are 2 or 3 layers atop a paper foundation; so the color of the oak floor is showing through the puppy blocks a bit. They will match nicely when they are sewn together and then quilted.

 Three Log Cabin blocks are done for Trevor's Nine Puppies quilt. Just 37 more to go! Finished size of blocks will be 10 ½".

Playful Kitties Label

The label for Elsie's quilt is finished and sewn onto the quilt. I completed everything on my list for today, plus a few extra things besides; so tomorrow I shall wrap Christmas presents! First, though, I want to fold and stack up the ten quilts I'll be giving Kurt and Victoria and the 9 youngest grandchildren. I've never had this many quilts in the house all at one time! 😄

Playful Kitties Quilt, Finished

Here's Elsie's Playful Kitties quilt, all finished (except for the label), outside in natural lighting. 

The quilt measures 80" x 74" (the width is greater than the length, because I'm planning to make shams or pillowcases using the last of the printed strips). I used Superior's variegated Omni 40-wt. 'Fairy Frost' thread on top, and Bottom Line 60-wt. pink thread in the bobbin. The batting is Hobbs Heirloom cotton.

See previous posts for closeups of the quilting. It's a combination of free-motion, pantograph, and rulerwork. My machine, an 18" Handi Quilter Avanté, is hand-guided, not computer-driven.

Binding on Playful Kitties Quilt

 The binding is on Elsie's Playful Kitties quilt!  It's done.  Well, except for the label.  I'll do that Tuesday, probably.  Tomorrow I'll take full pictures of the quilt in natural light.  I put bindings on entirely by machine.

This is the back of the binding. The stitching falls at less than 1/16".

Second to Last Row, Playful Kitties

 The second-to-last row of the Playful Kitties quilt is done, and I've started quilting the final row before the bottom border.
