Whirling Star Blocks

The last 8 Whirling Star blocks are done, plus one more, since I had extra pieces.  I'll make it into a pillow.  The last picture is the back of that final block, since a quilting friend asked to see it.  The horizontal sashing and corner blocks are together.  Now to join the rest!

More Piecing, 'The Heavens Declare Thy Glory'

After 7 more hours of piecing today, there are only 24 more half-quarter blocks (that is, the triangles that make up each quarter-block) to put together, and I'll be ready to start assembling the Whirling Star blocks.  Here are all the pieces that make up the entire quilt top.  There are 13 Whirling Star blocks, and 12 blocks cut from an 'In Space' fabric panel by Elizabeth's Studio.  The last photo shows the pieces for the borders.

Piecing 'The Heavens Declare Thy Glory'

Pieces of a block for 'The Heavens Declare Thy Glory' quilt. I won't sew them together until I get the half-quarters for all 13 blocks done, and arrange them in the colorway I like best. There are 50 or 60 different colors.

Pieced Backing

The central section of the backing for 'The Heavens Declare Thy Glory' is put together.  There will be wide borders of the dark blue star fabric.  I put together the backing, since the black background fabric for the front has not yet arrived from Marshall Dry Goods.  All the pieces are cut, ready and waiting.

Pillowcase for Leroy

Leroy's pillowcase is done; I'll give it to him for his 13th birthday Saturday, along with a hoodie.  Let's hope the pillowcase winds up matching the quilt I've only just begun on, and which I plan to give him for Christmas!

Pillowcase for Elsie

Today I made a pillowcase for Elsie, whose 8th birthday is in a couple of days.  I ordered her a new pillow, too.  The case is made from leftovers from her Playful Kitties quilt that I gave her last Christmas.

Cutting Pieces for 'The Heavens Declare Thy Glory' Quilt

I've been cutting pieces for 'The Heavens Declare Thy Glory' quilt, which will be for grandson Leroy, who will be 13 next week.  156 pieces are cut for thirteen blocks, plus 12 one-piece blocks with a solar system print.  I will need another 156 background pieces, plus several hundred pieces for sashing, cornerstones, and pieced borders.

'Consider the Heavens' Quilt Done

The 'Consider the Heaven's quilt for grandson Grant, 11, is finished.  It measures 74 ½" by 84 ½".

I used Quilters' Dream wool for the batting.  The top thread is 40-wt. King Tut variegated in 'Sheaves' color; the bobbin thread is 60-wt. Bottom Line in 'Cream'.  The central fabric panel is called 'Galaxy', by Northcott.  Daughter-in-law Amy, Grant's mother, found the glow-in-the-dark backing, 'Space Planets', by Camelot Fabrics.

I designed the pattern in EQ8.  The pantograph is 'Star Spangled' from Urban Elementz.  I have an 18" Handi Quilter Avanté on a 12' Studio frame.  My machine is hand-guided, not computer-driven.

'Consider the Heavens' Quilt Done

The 'Consider the Heavens' quilt is done, other than the label.  (The Bernina tech is working on the machine, an Artista 730, that I will use to embroider the label.)  I had a row and a half of quilting to finish today, and then I put the binding on.  Tomorrow I'll take pictures of it outside in natural lighting, and give full details.
