First Row, Old-Fashioned Sewing Machine Quilt

Quilting the top border and the first row of the Old-Fashioned Sewing Machine quilt. I'm about a third done with the quilting. I also threw in a couple of sunset photos and a picture of old-fashioned roses blooming in my gardens. I have half a dozen bushes, all from one root I found at the site of my late mother's home (a parsonage) when it was moved out to make room for our new church. Her bushes came from clippings from my grandmother's rosebushes in North Dakota, back in the mid 1950s.

Center of Old-Fashioned Sewing-Machine Quilt

I am making an Old-Fashioned Sewing-Machine quilt.  The blocks are from a panel; I cut them apart, repositioned them, and added sashing.  The sashing consists of three half-inch strips (finished size) sewn together, with cornerstones added.  This central section measures 27" x 40".  Now to make some scrappy 3D Flying Geese for the next border.  I plan to hang it from an oak clamping quilt bar my brother Loren gave me five years ago, also pictured.

This panel was purchased when we were in Texas in February and stopped at a little roadside quilting shop, Quilts, Etc., in Sour Lake, Texas. It was in a clearance bin. Larry spotted it and thought I really, really needed it. 😊

I hardly ever want to stop at quilt shops when we’re traveling, first because we have ♫ ♪ Places to Go ♫ ♪ and a Short Time to Get There ♫ ♪, and second because Larry finds too many things to buy! haha  I rarely purchase fabric unless I have a specific need for it in an imminent project.

Wool/Corduroy/Velvet Log Cabin Quilt

This evening, I put the binding on the wool/corduroy/velvet Log Cabin quilt.  I used the burgundy velvet binding that was on the original Jewel Box/Log Cabin.  The quilt measures 66" x 74".  The last picture shows the original quilt; this one is made of the 40 Log Cabin blocks that made the border.  A variety of brown blocks were added to get the quilt to a good size for a throw.

Wool Log Cabin Quilt

This wool log cabin quilt is made from the border of the Jewel Box Log Cabin quilt (photo #2).  It measures 68" x 75.5".  (That dark block doesn't look that dark in real life.)  Tomorrow I'll put the backing together, and the batting, too.
